This piece popularly known as the Egg Chair was designed in 1956 by Arne Jacobsen. However, similar products also used its name. The Egg Chair was an iconic piece that inspired so many other designs. It was the first and innovative piece of furniture that featured a molded interior, and it was the creation of a designer whose ideas were so groundbreaking and creative that the word pioneer was not enough to describe him.

Arne Jacobsen designed this iconic piece when he was on a commission serving the Royals in Copenhagen. Considering its large frame and the featured cushion, this chair can also fall in the "couch" category. This design was among the firsts that presented a hard interior and made pleasantly comfortable thanks to the smooth upholstery. Later on, the lining was changed for fabric, so as to avoid the seam in the middle.

The first word that people use to describe the Egg Chair at the initial impression is eggshell.

The curvy shape makes it seem something quite different than a typical chair. Top and base sides are curved out and inwards, providing a certain sense of privacy that regular chairs lack of. Its flat base gives stability to the chair and a complete panoramic vision. The Egg Chair produces such an optical illusion that makes you sense comfort and relax.
